What is a root canal?

A root canal is one of the most common dental procedures performed, well over 14 million every year. This simple treatment can save your natural teeth and prevent the need of dental implants or bridges.

In the center of the teeth are nerves and blood vessels that can become infected from trauma or a deep cavity. Sometimes an infected tooth will hurt and other times the patient will notice a swelling or pus on their gums.

Natural ozone therapy instead of drugs!

When Dr. Taras cleans the infected nerves out of a tooth, he typically uses a natural holistic therapy called ozone to kill the bad bacteria that are infecting the tooth. This is much safer then the bleach and antibiotics that are typically used by most dentists who are only traditionally trained.

Increasingly, patients are becoming more informed and want holistic practitioners. As a holistic dentist, Dr. Taras can use BOTH traditional and holistic dental training when serving his patients!

The diagram on the left illustrates how tooth decay progresses.   When decay reaches the nerve inside the tooth, the tooth becomes infected.

Bacteria multiply, pus forms, pressure builds, bone is destroyed, and a person may notice a bubble on their gum (illustrated in the photo’s below).

At this point, root canal therapy can be done to try and rid the tooth of the infection.   A post and a crown then restore the tooth.

These bubbles on the gum are filled with pus coming from the infected nerves inside the teeth.   Cleaning out the infected nerve canal inside the tooth root is called a root canal.
